About the Euro 2028 simulator

Euro 2028 is hosted by England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales, and 24 teams will play it. Fifty-four are eligible: all 55 UEFA members bar Russia, who are suspended from the confederation's competitions. The real draw does not exist yet, so here you make it yourself, from the first pick to the last penalty.

The 24-team format has not changed since 2016: six groups of four, the top two in each group plus the four best third-placed teams, and that gives you a round of 16. The part that catches everyone out is who each third-placed side faces, because it is not drawn at all: it comes from a fixed table of the fifteen possible combinations.

How to simulate Euro 2028

  1. 1Pick your 24 teams from the 54 eligible sides. There is a search box, and a button that fills the rest with the highest-ranked teams if you would rather get going.
  2. 2Look at the four pots. They build themselves: the six best in the FIFA ranking go into pot 1, and so on down to pot 4.
  3. 3Make the draw. Pot 1 empties one team per group, then pot 2, and so on. Draw ball by ball, let it run automatically, or start the whole thing again if you do not like how it fell.
  4. 4Simulate the 36 group matches, check the third-placed table to see who sneaks through, and work the bracket down to the final.

Frequently asked questions

How many teams play at Euro 2028?

Twenty-four, the same as in 2016, 2020 and 2024. Fifty-four are eligible to qualify: all 55 UEFA members bar Russia, who are suspended. England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales are the hosts.

How do the best third-placed teams qualify?

The six third-placed sides are ranked on points, then goal difference, then goals scored, and the top four go through. The simulator shows you that table underneath the groups with the cut-off line marked, so you can see exactly why one team on four points goes out and another on four points survives.

Who does each third-placed team face in the last 16?

It is not drawn. Depending on which four groups produce a qualifying third, an official table of fifteen combinations decides which group winner hosts which third-placed side. The simulator applies that table, and it was checked against the real Euro 2024: it reproduces all eight round-of-16 ties that were actually played.

Can I redo the draw?

As many times as you like. The redraw button draws all six groups again from scratch using the same pots. You can also go back and change the 24 teams entirely.
