World Cup 2026 Group K: Portugal, Colombia, Uzbekistan, DR Congo

Fut Simulator Pro·15 June 2026

Group K of World Cup 2026 is one of the juiciest pools of the entire group stage: it brings together Portugal, with their golden generation and a 41-year-old Cristiano Ronaldo playing his sixth and almost certainly final World Cup; a powerful Colombia led by James Rodriguez and Luis Diaz; an Uzbekistan side living its historic World Cup debut; and a DR Congo returning to the tournament 52 years later. Two world powers and two hungry outsiders share a group decided across three June matchdays between Houston, Mexico City, Guadalajara, Miami and Atlanta. In this analysis we review every team and, above all, invite you to use our football simulator to predict how the table will end up yourself.

The Four Teams of Group K

  • Portugal (UEFA): reigning Nations League champions, coached by Roberto Martinez. With Cristiano Ronaldo (Al-Nassr) as captain in his sixth World Cup and an elite midfield featuring Vitinha (PSG), Bruno Fernandes (Manchester United) and Bernardo Silva (Manchester City).
  • DR Congo (CAF): the Leopards return to the World Cup after a 52-year absence, led by Frenchman Sebastien Desabre. Their captain is Chancel Mbemba and they lean on Cedric Bakambu (Real Betis), Yoane Wissa (Newcastle United) and Aaron Wan-Bissaka (West Ham).
  • Uzbekistan (AFC): absolute debutants at a World Cup, coached by 2006 world champion Fabio Cannavaro. Their stars are captain Eldor Shomurodov, the gifted Abbosbek Fayzullaev and defender Abdukodir Khusanov (Manchester City).
  • Colombia (CONMEBOL): Nestor Lorenzo's side arrive among the favorites, ranked sixth in the Opta power rankings. They are led by James Rodriguez, a Luis Diaz now shining at Bayern Munich, striker Jhon Duran and the emerging Richard Rios.

The Schedule: Three June Matchdays

Group K runs from June 17 to 27, 2026, spread across venues in the United States and Mexico. Portugal will be based in Houston for the first two matchdays, while Uzbekistan and Colombia open their campaign in Mexico. The third round promises an electric finish, headlined by the showdown Colombia vs Portugal in Miami. If you want to get ahead of the results, load the full fixture into our football simulator and play all three matchdays before they kick off for real.

  • Matchday 1 (Jun 17): Portugal vs DR Congo (Houston) and Uzbekistan vs Colombia (Mexico City). Uzbekistan's World Cup baptism comes against Colombia.
  • Matchday 2 (Jun 23): Portugal vs Uzbekistan (Houston) and Colombia vs DR Congo (Zapopan, Guadalajara).
  • Matchday 3 (Jun 27): Colombia vs Portugal (Hard Rock Stadium, Miami) and DR Congo vs Uzbekistan (Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Atlanta).

Portugal: Cristiano's Last Ride

Portugal arrive as the heavy group favorites and as one of the serious title contenders. Roberto Martinez has built a side that blends the veteran presence of Cristiano Ronaldo —226 caps, 143 goals, both all-time records— with a dazzling midfield engine. Vitinha, the hub of PSG's treble-winning side, dictates the rhythm from deep; Bruno Fernandes brings verticality and goals; Bernardo Silva offers unbalancing flair; and ahead of them wait Rafael Leao and Goncalo Ramos. The narrative is unavoidable: at 41, this is almost certainly Cristiano's final World Cup, and he dreams of the one great trophy missing from his cabinet. For Portugal the challenge is not qualifying —they take that for granted— but arriving whole and switched-on for the decisive phase. In our football simulator you can check how often the Portuguese win the group unbeaten.

Colombia: The Tricolor of James and Luis Diaz

Colombia are, for many, the surprise that surprises no one: Nestor Lorenzo's team sits sixth in the Opta power rankings, even ahead of Portugal. The conducting still runs through the magic of James Rodriguez, captain and brain, but the leap in level is set by Luis Diaz, who after his transfer to Bayern Munich is enjoying a stellar season in the Bundesliga and the Champions League. Up top, the physical power of Jhon Duran and the breakthrough of Richard Rios in midfield give the Tricolor a rare blend of talent and muscle. Colombia have not come to participate: they have come to fight for top spot, and the final clash in Miami against Portugal could be worth first place. Simulate that blockbuster in our football simulator and find out who takes Group K.

Uzbekistan: The Debut That Makes History

No story in Group K is as moving as Uzbekistan's. For the first time in their history, the White Wolves play a World Cup, and they do so under a luxury manager: Fabio Cannavaro, captain of Italy's 2006 champions. The team is built around captain and attacking reference Eldor Shomurodov, the creativity of Abbosbek Fayzullaev and the solidity of young center-back Abdukodir Khusanov, signed by Manchester City. With none of the favorites' pressure, Uzbekistan can play freely and stun any of the big names. The baptism could hardly be tougher —they open against Colombia— but a third-place finish could open the door to the round of 32. How far can the debutant go? Find out in our football simulator.

DR Congo: The Return of the Leopards

Five decades after their last appearance —then as Zaire, in 1974— DR Congo are back at a World Cup, and they arrive without fear. French coach Sebastien Desabre's project has restored belief to the Leopards, a warrior-like, physically imposing side. Their backbone blends European experience and goal instinct: captain Chancel Mbemba marshals the defense, Aaron Wan-Bissaka adds physicality at full-back, Cedric Bakambu (Real Betis) is the historic attacking reference, and Yoane Wissa (Newcastle United) brings flair and goals after a strong Premier League spell. Nobody wants to face this DR Congo on a bad day. For Desabre, taking points off Uzbekistan and competing with Portugal or Colombia would already be a resounding success. Put the Leopards to the test in our football simulator.

Favorites and Prediction

The Opta supercomputer paints a clear but nuanced picture. Portugal are the heavy favorites to win the group with a 59.0% probability and advance to the next round in 94.9% of simulations. Colombia shape up as the other qualifier with a commanding 84.9% chance of getting through. Behind them, the two outsiders share almost identical hopes: both DR Congo (22.1%) and Uzbekistan (22.1%) will find it very hard to finish in the top two, although a third-place finish could be enough to sneak into the round of 32 in the new 48-team format. It is, according to Opta, the only group with two teams inside the top 10 of its power rankings —Colombia (6th) and Portugal (9th)— which makes it the second-toughest group of the tournament.

"Portugal and Colombia start as the outright favorites, but at a World Cup the percentages do not play the matches: that is why it is worth simulating them all before taking anything for granted."
