Frequently asked questions about Liga MX

How many teams are in Liga MX?

Liga MX is made up of 18 clubs competing in Mexico's top division. Throughout the year they contest two short, independent tournaments, the Apertura and the Clausura, each with its own champion. This simulator covers the Apertura 2026 with all 18 teams and their real fixture list.

How does the tournament format work?

Each tournament is a single round-robin league of 17 matchdays. Teams earn 3 points for a win and 1 for a draw. After the 17 rounds, the top clubs enter the Liguilla: the top four go straight to the quarter-finals, while places 5 to 10 contest a Play-In for the remaining spots.

What is the Liguilla?

The Liguilla is the knockout phase that decides the champion. After the regular season, the top four qualify directly for the quarter-finals, while places five to ten play a Play-In to complete the bracket. The knockouts progress to a two-legged final, home and away, that crowns the tournament champion.

Is there relegation in Liga MX?

There is currently no relegation in Liga MX: it is suspended. Instead, a coefficient and fine system applies to the worst-performing clubs, so no team drops down at the end of the tournament. That is why the simulator focuses on the race for the Liguilla and the title.

Is the simulator free?

Yes, the simulator is completely free and requires no sign-up. You just jump in, start from the live Apertura 2026 table and fixtures, enter your scores or auto-simulate, and see everything recalculate instantly. You can try as many scenarios as you want, as many times as you like.
